Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes - Home
Don’t worry about the song - you’ve either heard this song or you’ve been living under a rock that has no ipod directly connected to the Current. We were discussing this at brunch the other day, and one friend was talking about how she liked the song initially but then realized it had every little indie cliche of the past few years (whistling, boys and girls singing, etc) and therefore she had to hate it. We all thought the spoken part was kind of silly, even if the song is charming. Another friend noted that the lyrics were kind of nonsense and you could insert pretty much anything and it would sound okay. Try it real quick!
Tumblr facebook twitter too, I’ve got internets to do
Ain’t nothing like when I’m chatting with you
And I didn’t even take time to edit that. Alright, I took out one word. The point is, it’s very easy. So in the spirit of the season, I wrote some new lyrics to the tune of “Home.” I call it “Snow.”
[Picture this being sung by two Minnesotas, preferably with slight accents, alternating verses between male and female of course.]
Minnesota, snow is here
I hope that you stay warm my dear
Don’t forget your mittens and your boots
Yah you betcha don’t you know
There should be a lot of snow
We’ll have some shoveling to do
Man oh man and me oh my
See it falling from the sky
It’s pretty though it’s nothing really new
Well let’s go make some hot cocoa
Cause we got nowhere else to go
Too busy watching all the snow
Chorus:
Oh snow, oh let it snow!
Snow is the wintertime for you
Oh snow, oh let it snow
Snow is falling just for you
Just listen to the howling wind
It’ll blow off all your skin
Thinking about staying in with you
I pray and hope and hope and pray
Tomorrow will be a snow day
Just think of all the things we’d do
Though I would love nothing more
We’ve been down this road before
Can’t wish for things that won’t come true
Well sweetie pie I guess you’re right
Grab your blanket, hold on tight
We’ve got some snuggling to do
(Chorus)
Spoken:
Ann?
Alexander…
Do you remember that time you fell down the sledding hill…
Yeah, you came rolling down after me…
Well, you were freezing so I gave you my coat and hat so you could stay warm, remember that?
I sure do…
Well there’s something I never told you about that night.
Oh, what’s that?
Well, while you were warming up I was getting hypothermia but I didn’t say nothing cause you’re so pretty but anyway I have to wear long johns all the time now
(cheerful laughter)

This is both Nice, Nice and Katrina and The K-hole back-to-back off Lifter Puller’s 2003 release that I was just made aware of this weekend.
There’s a little something extra for Twincy / Twincitizens in these tracks; you know, if that’s your thing.
